Champions League: Real Madrid host RB Leipzig
José Mourinho's Real Madrid welcome RB Leipzig to the Bernabéu tonight, aiming to make it three wins from three in the Champions League.
Real Madrid host RB Leipzig at the Santiago Bernabéu this evening in matchday 3 of the Champions League league phase. José Mourinho's side, who kick off at 21.00 local time (21:00 CEST), are aiming to make it three wins from three in the competition.
Flawless start for Madrid
Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with victories over Inter and Roma. Trailing 3-1 in Rome going into the final 8 minutes, the Spanish side turned the game around through goals from Carlos Espí, Endrick and Antonio Rüdiger.
Mourinho's men are also in good form domestically. Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Madrid beat Sevilla 4-1 on Sunday, taking the Frenchman to 11 goals in 11 matches this season. Real Madrid are third in LaLiga, 6 points behind leaders Barcelona, and travel to Camp Nou for El Clásico on Sunday.
Vinícius Júnior, who is unavailable in the league because of a 4-match ban, is expected to feature in Europe. Éder Militão, back from a hamstring injury, has also played for the first time since 21 April.
Leipzig struggling on the road
Martín Demichelis's RB Leipzig began their Champions League campaign with a 4-1 defeat away to Como, before beating PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at home. The German side have lost their last 5 away matches in Europe.
Leipzig were beaten 6-1 by Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga at the weekend. Seventh in the Bundesliga, they have won all 3 of their home league games and lost all 3 away from home. Leipzig will be without Assan Ouédraogo, Christoph Baumgartner and Marc Guiu through injury.
Last meeting in 2024
The two clubs have met 4 times before, with Real Madrid winning 2 of those encounters. Their most recent meeting came in the 2023/24 round of 16: the game at the Bernabéu finished 1-1 and Madrid progressed 2-1 on aggregate.
