Coventry City 0-1 Fulham: Bobb opens his account as Arbeloa's side win a second straight game
Oscar Bobb's first Premier League goal for Fulham earned his side a 1-0 victory away at Coventry City.
Oscar Bobb's first Premier League goal for Fulham earned his side a 1-0 victory away at Coventry City.
In a contest short on clear chances at the CBS Arena, Josh King struck the post in the first half before Bobb stepped up in the 80th minute to settle the match.
Alvaro Arbeloa's side started brightly. A neat exchange between Bobb and Gonzalo Garcia ended with Garcia's shot blocked by the defence. Shortly afterwards, Carl Rushworth denied Shay Charles.
Fulham came close to scoring in the 18th minute: King collected the ball in the box, controlled it and unleashed a powerful strike, only to see it come back off the right-hand post. Alex Iwobi was unable to find the net from the rebound.
Coventry struggled to create clear-cut openings, and Brandon Thomas-Asante headed over from Jay Dasilva's cross from the left. Just past the half-hour mark, Thomas-Asante tried to punish a stray pass from Antonee Robinson, but Bernd Leno made a comfortable save. Before the break, Milan van Ewijk's awkward touch on a Robinson cross ended up in the side netting of his own goal.
In the 69th minute, Charles wasted a glorious opportunity. Timothy Castagne knocked down Bobb's cross, but Charles, completely unmarked at the far post, failed to put the ball in the net.
With the match heading for a draw, Bobb produced a moment of class. The Norwegian skipped past Dasilva and Jack Rudoni with slick footwork before curling a superb finish into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Rushworth helpless and handing Fulham their second win of the season.
Bobb leads Fulham's revival
Morale had been low at Fulham after they failed to win any of their first six Premier League games of the season, but Arbeloa's side have begun to turn things around. Following the Hull City game, the London club also returned from Coventry with all three points and climbed to 12th in the table.
The result also ended Fulham's eight-match winless run on the road. It was the first time since March that they had won back-to-back Premier League games, while the last time they had put together two consecutive wins without conceding was in December 2025.
Bobb, who broke the deadlock with an outstanding strike from a position worth just 0.07 expected goals (xG), also ended a run of 29 matches without a goal involvement. The star player scored the second league goal of his career to hand Fulham three precious points.
