Cristiano Ronaldo handed 30-day Portugal suspension

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has handed Cristiano Ronaldo a 30-day suspension over his comments about head coach Jorge Jesus.

Ronaldo left the national team camp last month and subsequently claimed that Jesus had "not kept his word". The 41-year-old star released a lengthy statement saying he had been treated unfairly, yet admitted that he had made a mistake and deserved to be punished.

Jorge Jesus, for his part, had left the door open for Ronaldo to return to the national side for next month's UEFA Nations League fixtures.

The FPF has yet to confirm exactly when Ronaldo's suspension will begin. Portugal host Denmark on 14 November before travelling to face Wales three days later.

Alongside the suspension, Ronaldo has also been fined 255 euros. The veteran forward, who has scored 981 goals in his career, holds the record as the highest scorer in the history of international football.
