Espanyol Appoint Eder Sarabia as New Head Coach

Espanyol have moved quickly to fill the head coach vacancy left by Manolo González, bringing in Eder Sarabia. The Spanish coach has signed a contract with the club until June 2028.

The Catalan club parted ways with González on Tuesday following a shock exit in the first round of the Copa del Rey, where they were beaten 4-3 after extra time by fourth-tier side Sestao River. Espanyol are also going through a difficult spell in LaLiga, sitting 18th with 8 points from the 10 league matches played so far, and are without a win in their last 5 games (1 draw, 4 defeats). Sarabia has been handed the task of turning around the club's poor run.

The Basque coach, most recently in charge of Elche, kept his side in LaLiga with a 1-1 draw against Girona on the final matchday of last season, before leaving the club in a surprise decision. Sarabia's only season as a head coach in LaLiga came at the helm of Elche, where he recorded 10 wins, 13 draws and 15 defeats in 38 league matches, a win rate of 26.3%.

Sarabia, who has also previously worked as an assistant coach at Barcelona, will be officially presented to the media at the club on Tuesday. Espanyol host Villarreal on Friday in Matchday 11 of LaLiga.
