Glasner promises change after defeat

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner admitted that things have to change in his team after a 2-0 defeat to Brentford. The loss saw Forest drop to 19th in the Premier League.

In the match, Nikola Milenković unluckily turned Dango Ouattara's cross into his own net. In the closing stages, Igor Thiago settled the contest with a finish that also deflected off the Serbian centre-back.

With the score at 1-0, Ryan Yates had come close to an equaliser, but his header during a spell of Forest pressure went over the bar.

The result means Glasner has not won a league game since the victory over Aston Villa in September. Forest are without a win in their last five Premier League matches, suffering their fourth defeat in that run.

Forest have also failed to score in five of their nine league games this season. Despite generating a higher expected goals (xG) figure than their opponents in seven of those nine matches, no team in the league has drawn a blank in as many games as Forest.

Speaking after the match, the Austrian coach insisted that change is essential.

"It's the same story every week. If things keep turning out the same way, then there is clearly a pattern. Today everything became very clear; we have to change something," Glasner said.

Pointing to mistakes at both ends of the pitch, the manager added: "We make too many mistakes. This is no longer acceptable, it's absolutely clear. We play slowly, we keep repeating the same mistakes and every time it's different players making them. If you keep wasting chances, that's a pattern too. I don't want to talk about statistics because they count for nothing on the pitch. We didn't score and we conceded two goals."

Having scored only six league goals this season, Forest are the Premier League's lowest scorers as they struggle for productivity in attack.

Glasner described Brentford's second goal as "a great counter-attack", while its scorer Thiago reached his second league goal of the season.

"It's a great feeling. I'm very happy to have scored another goal in a Brentford shirt. I want to thank our fans, who have supported me constantly throughout this period. When people believe in you, you can give so much more on the pitch," the Brazilian said.

The win means Keith Andrews' Brentford hold on to sixth place, just two points behind the top four.
