"I'd love to play there" – Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya gives LaLiga the green light
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya says he would "love" to play in LaLiga one day, while stressing he remains happy at the London club.
Arsenal's in-form goalkeeper David Raya has said he would "love" to play in LaLiga at some point in his professional career. The Spanish shot-stopper left the door open for the future, while stressing that he is happy at the London club.
Raya, who joined Arsenal permanently from Brentford in 2024 after spending the previous season on loan, has become one of Mikel Arteta's most trusted players since arriving at the club.
Raya has made 157 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, keeping 74 clean sheets – at least 31 more than any other Premier League goalkeeper over the same period. That record also puts the 31-year-old ahead of every other goalkeeper in Europe's top five leagues, and he has collected the Premier League Golden Glove 3 times.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who has spent his entire career in England with Blackburn Rovers, Southport, Brentford and Arsenal, spoke about the possibility of returning to the country he left in 2012 at the age of just 16:
"Yes, I'd love that. I'd love to experience playing in LaLiga. I'm very happy at Arsenal right now, but in the future I'd definitely like to experience the Spanish league. I think it's an extremely competitive league. Maybe one day I could play for a Spanish club. I'm Spanish and I'd definitely love to play there."
The experienced goalkeeper, who has maintained his consistent form this season, played a major part last term as his side won the league title and reached the finals of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup.
Describing the year as near-perfect, Raya said: "I think the only thing missing was not getting minutes at the World Cup. I've kept improving every year since I came to Arsenal and I hope that continues. But I believe I had the best season of my career, winning the Premier League and playing a decisive role in the Champions League and the Community Shield."
Ahead of a tough Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, Raya made clear he is hungry for trophies, setting out his targets: "We want to win in every competition. We want to prove ourselves as favourites, and that is our main goal. Hopefully this season we can build on last season by bringing the Champions League to our museum too, but there is still a long way to go."
