Inter plan new contract for Hakan Çalhanoğlu: Salary cut on the agenda

As Serie A side Inter step up work on players approaching the final stage of their contracts, Turkey international Hakan Çalhanoğlu is reportedly among the club's top priorities. The Milan club are said to want to extend the current contract of the experienced 32-year-old midfielder. However, it has been claimed that the board plans to set a lower fixed wage in the new deal than Çalhanoğlu currently earns.

Inter's management is reportedly preparing to introduce a new pay policy in which performance-based bonuses carry greater weight in contract renewal talks. Talks with the Turkey international are expected to be held as part of the work led by sporting director Dario Baccin and club president Giuseppe Marotta. The Italian club are said to want to reach an agreement with the experienced player, whose contract expires on 30 June 2027, before January, but are considering offering a lower fixed salary than his current earnings in the new deal.

Inter's new contract policy aims to increase the weight of success bonuses linked to player performance. Accordingly, players' total earnings will reportedly be shaped by their time on the pitch and the performances they deliver. Hakan Çalhanoğlu is not the only name on the Milan giants' renewal agenda. The Italian club, who are close to an agreement with Carlos Augusto, are also reported to be working on the contracts of Federico Dimarco and Marcus Thuram.
