Liverpool 2-2 London City Lionesses: Fernández's Late Own Goal Breaks Hearts of Putellas and Co

A 92nd-minute own goal from Jana Fernández handed Liverpool a last-gasp 2-2 draw against London City Lionesses at the St Helens Stadium.

After falling behind to a Beata Olsson penalty, London City Lionesses turned the game around through Freya Godfrey and Kadidiatou Diani and were closing in on a fifth straight win in the Women's Super League. But Liverpool, who dominated the second half, were rewarded for their pressure in stoppage time, when the unfortunate Fernández turned Cornelia Kapocs' cross into her own net.

The hosts went ahead in the 19th minute when Olsson converted from the spot after Jenna Clark was brought down in the box by Mapi León. London City needed just 3 minutes to respond, with Godfrey pouncing on goalkeeper Khiara Keating's hesitation on the ball, dispossessing her and rolling it into the empty net. The visitors then took the lead before the break, as Diani capitalised on an error by Alejandra Bernabé to make it 2-1.

Liverpool stepped up the pressure after the interval. Elene Lete kept out a curling effort from Natalia Ramos, while a dangerous Kapocs delivery came back off the crossbar. Gareth Taylor's side did find a deserved equaliser deep into stoppage time, but their winless run in the league stretched to 3 matches and Liverpool remain 10th.

Elsewhere, Chelsea came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 3-1. Trailing to a Molly Bartrip goal, the Blues turned the game on its head thanks to a superb display from Melvine Malard. Malard starred with 2 goals before Sandy Baltimore sealed the result from the penalty spot late on. Aston Villa, meanwhile, continued their resurgence under interim manager Brian Sorensen with a 3-2 win over Everton.
