Manchester City v PSG Makes History: Champions League Market Value Record

The blockbuster UEFA Champions League clash between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain went into the competition's history books for the combined market value of the two squads. The two teams' total market value reached €2.86 billion, the highest level ever seen in Champions League history. The match, which PSG won 4-2 away from home, left its mark on football history not only for the scoreline but also for the economic scale it represented. The previous record, set in meetings between Real Madrid and Manchester City, was thus surpassed.

The Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain match claimed the title of the most expensive game in Champions League history by total squad value. The record figure of €2.86 billion took over top spot from the Real Madrid v Manchester City match that reached €2.69 billion. Third on the list is another Manchester City v Real Madrid fixture at €2.66 billion, while a further meeting between the same two teams is fourth at €2.60 billion.

Looking at the 10 Champions League matches with the highest market values, the clear dominance of Manchester City and Real Madrid stands out. The English giants feature six times and the Spanish side eight times in the ranking. The Liverpool v Real Madrid meeting is fifth at €2.57 billion, while two Real Madrid v Manchester City matches also make the list at €2.54 billion each.

On the historic night when the market value record fell, Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 4-2 away. The French side led 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha. Although Erling Haaland found the net twice in the second half for Manchester City, PSG sealed a 4-2 win with a goal from Maghnes Akliouche.
