Nashville SC star Hany Mukhtar says his side are "ready for more" after a 2-0 win over CF Montréal clinched the MLS Supporters' Shield.
The victory at Stade Saputo lifted Nashville to 70 points, securing top spot in MLS with 3 games of the regular season remaining.
Nashville struggled to break down the opposition defence in the first half, managing just 2 shots on target while the hosts registered 5. In the 51st minute, however, Sam Surridge put his side in front with his 18th MLS goal of the season. An own goal by goalkeeper Samsy Keita then sealed all 3 points.
Having won the second trophy in their history, Nashville now have their sights set on the league record. The all-time MLS points record stands at 74, and Nashville have 3 games left to surpass it.
Unbeaten in their last 7 league matches under head coach BJ Callaghan (6W, 1D), Nashville can achieve even more before the end of the season, Mukhtar believes.
"This is our second trophy in recent times, and I think together we've done a really great job. And yes, we're ready for more. At the start of the season we made plans about wanting to compete for a trophy. As a club and as players we were aiming to take the next step, and I think we've done that," the experienced player said.
Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference, New England Revolution moved into second place after beating Philadelphia Union 2-1 thanks to stoppage-time goals from Dor Turgeman and Carles Gil. Chicago Fire, meanwhile, climbed to fourth with a 3-2 win over Atlanta United.
In the Western Conference, FC Dallas beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-0, with Petar Musa the star of the show with 2 goals. Dallas cut the gap to leaders Vancouver Whitecaps, who lost 1-0 to Colorado Rapids, to 1 point, ramping up the pressure in the race for top spot. Third-placed St. Louis City SC, on the other hand, suffered a second consecutive defeat after a 3-0 loss to Real Salt Lake.
