Nestor El Maestro era begins at Manisa FK as he signs 1.5-year contract
Trendyol 1. Lig side Manisa FK have signed former Göztepe head coach Nestor El Maestro on a 1.5-year contract. The 43-year-old was most recently at Anorthosis.
Trendyol 1. Lig side Manisa FK have appointed Nestor El Maestro as their new head coach. The black-and-whites officially announced that a 1.5-year contract had been signed with the 43-year-old Serbian coach.
El Maestro, who previously managed Göztepe in the Süper Lig, thus returns to Turkish football. The experienced coach, most recently in charge of Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta, will continue his career with the Manisa club.
The Belgrade-born coach had his first spell in Türkiye at Göztepe in the 2021-2022 season. Appointed by the Izmir club in September 2021, El Maestro remained in charge until March 2022, overseeing 28 matches and averaging 1.11 points per game. Over a coaching career spanning several countries, he has also managed clubs such as Spartak Trnava, Sturm Graz, CSKA Sofia, Al-Taawoun, Debrecen and Al-Najma.
A holder of the UEFA Pro Licence, El Maestro worked as an assistant coach at major European clubs before becoming a head coach. The Serbian was part of Mirko Slomka's coaching staff at Schalke 04, Hannover 96 and Hamburg, and also served as Thorsten Fink's assistant at Austria Wien.
