Neymar among the most valuable players whose contracts expire at the end of 2026

With the end of 2026 approaching, a number of star names stand out among the players whose contracts expire in December, Neymar among them. While player contracts across most of Europe traditionally run until 30 June, December is a crucial turning point in countries that follow a different league calendar. In leagues built around the calendar year, such as those in the USA (MLS), Brazil and China, many players' deals come to an end at the close of the year.

Players at MLS and Brazilian Série A clubs dominate the list of the most valuable footballers set to become free agents at the end of 2026. Top spot is shared by Real Salt Lake's Diego Luna, Grêmio's Francis Amuzu and Santos forward Neymar, each with a market value of €8 million.

The most eye-catching name on the list, Neymar is continuing his career at Santos, the club where he began as a professional. The Brazilian star, who enjoyed great success in European football with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, returned to his boyhood club Santos after a spell at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The 34-year-old's current market value has fallen to €8 million. Having reached a value of €180 million at his peak, Neymar has seen his value drop by around 95.6% over the years.

Alongside Neymar, former Galatasaray forward Carlos Vinícius, Santos duo Everton and Arthur Melo, and Red Bull Bragantino's Eric Ramires are also among the notable names whose contracts expire at the end of 2026.
