Schmetzer: "Young star Gomez has limitless potential"

Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer believes young player Sebastian Gomez, who has caught the eye with his recent form, has "limitless potential".

Coming off the bench in Saturday's 2-2 draw with San Diego FC, Gomez found the net for the second consecutive match. The 20-year-old became the fourth player in club history, after Fredy Montero, Obafemi Martins and Sammy Ochoa, to score as a substitute in back-to-back MLS regular-season matches.

Schmetzer believes the sky is the limit for his young player:

"As long as he stays at this club, this kid has a really, really bright future. He's really that good. I like smart players; some of the things he did on the pitch were like a veteran player. The kid has limitless potential, and we're lucky to have him. He's making my job harder and harder when it comes to selection."

Seattle Sounders face Houston Dynamo on Wednesday. Seattle sit seventh in the Western Conference, two places and four points behind their opponents.

Schmetzer described the result against San Diego, in which the Sounders let slip a 2-0 lead, as a major disappointment:

"This result feels like a defeat for us. We were much better than our opponent and should have put the game away. The boys gave everything out there, and we absolutely should have left with three points."

Players to Watch

Seattle Sounders - Albert Rusnak Although he failed to get on the scoresheet against San Diego, Rusnak led Seattle's attack with three shots and three chances created. The star player has contributed 11 assists and 4 goals in MLS this season.

Houston Dynamo - Guilherme With 16 goals and 10 assists for the Dynamo this season, Guilherme has become the first player in club history to surpass the 15+ goals and 10+ assists mark in a single regular season.

Match Prediction: Seattle Sounders Win

Houston Dynamo have won just one of their last 11 regular-season matches (7 draws, 3 defeats) and are winless in their last seven (5 draws, 2 defeats). That slump came straight after a five-match winning streak from late June to mid-August.

Seattle, meanwhile, have won only four of their last 20 MLS matches since mid-May (7 draws, 9 defeats), with all four of those wins coming consecutively in September and October. Even so, the Sounders have suffered just one defeat in their last 12 matches (4 wins, 7 draws).

Head-to-head, Seattle hold a clear advantage. The Sounders are unbeaten in 19 home matches against Houston across all competitions (14 wins, 5 draws). The Dynamo have managed just five goals in total in those 19 matches at Lumen Field and have never scored more than once in any of them.
