In his statement, Ismail Jakobs highlighted the special place the Senegal national team holds in his life:
"I joined the national team as a young boy, and today I say goodbye as a man. I leave with unforgettable memories, lifelong friendships and a gratitude that will stay in my heart forever. Even though I grew up in Germany, Senegal welcomed me with love and open arms. The country, the fans, my teammates and the culture quickly made me feel at home. Thanks to Senegal, my childhood dreams came true and I made memories I will carry in my heart forever. As the son of a Senegalese father, fulfilling not only my own dream but also my father's meant so much to me. In every match I played for my country, I gave everything I had. I am proud of what we achieved and of every moment we shared together."
Explaining the reasons behind his decision, the accomplished left-back concluded:
"Today the time has come to turn a new page. I want to focus on my club career and spend more time on myself and my family. Because time is precious, and some moments never come back. My journey on the pitch with Senegal may be coming to an end, but the bond between me and my country will never be broken. Senegal has given me so much, and I hope that one day I can give something back to this country. Senegal gave me the chance to live my dreams, and for that I will be forever grateful. Thank you for everything. We will never give up on Senegal!"
Born in Germany, where he also came through the youth ranks, Ismail Jakobs made his debut for the Senegal senior national team in a friendly against Bolivia in September 2022. After choosing to represent Senegal, the experienced player quickly became one of the team's indispensable figures, contributing 2 assists in 33 international appearances.
