Emre Belözoğlu's record against his rivals: Okan Buruk, Thomas Reis, Vincenzo Italiano and others

Appointed head coach of Fenerbahçe for the second time, Emre Belözoğlu has agreed a 1.5-year contract with the yellow-and-navy club. The 46-year-old began his coaching career on an interim basis at Fenerbahçe in 2021, taking charge of 10 matches, and went on to coach Başakşehir, Ankaragücü, Antalyaspor and Kasımpaşa. Belözoğlu's past results against his fellow head coaches are drawing attention, with his record against Okan Buruk, Thomas Reis, Vincenzo Italiano and Arda Turan standing out in particular.

His record against other head coaches also contains some striking details. Belözoğlu failed to win any of his 7 matches against Fatih Tekke, coming away with 3 draws and 4 defeats. The experienced coach won 2 of his 3 matches against former Fenerbahçe head coach İsmail Kartal, while he lost all 3 of his meetings with Jorge Jesus and was also beaten in his only encounter with José Mourinho.

6 defeats in 8 matches against Okan Buruk

In his coaching career, Belözoğlu has recorded 2 wins and 6 defeats in the 8 matches in which he faced Okan Buruk. Yet to draw against the Galatasaray head coach, Belözoğlu has averaged 0.75 points per game.

Against Trabzonspor head coach Thomas Reis, Belözoğlu has collected 2 wins and 1 defeat in 3 matches, an average of 2.00 points. In his 3 meetings with Beşiktaş head coach Vincenzo Italiano, he has one win, one draw and one defeat.

Champions League meeting with Arda Turan

Emre Belözoğlu lost the only match in which he has faced Arda Turan as a head coach. This time, the two former Turkey internationals will go head to head on the UEFA Champions League stage. Fenerbahçe will visit Arda Turan's Shakhtar Donetsk on 25 November, when the two coaches will meet for the second time in their careers.
