Houston Dynamo Stick With Ben Olsen: 'We Will Keep Improving'

Ben Olsen, who extended his contract with Houston Dynamo on October 21, believes the team still has significant room to grow.

Olsen took charge of Dynamo in 2022 after a 10-year career at D.C. United, and since succeeding Paulo Nagamura he has delivered a clear step forward for the club. The 49-year-old coach led Houston to the U.S. Open Cup title while turning the team into a consistent presence in the playoff picture.

Having clinched a playoff berth early again this season, Houston continued their preparations with a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas in their most recent MLS match. With his contract now extended through the end of the 2027-28 season, Olsen aims to build further success on solid foundations.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Olsen said: "The enormous potential of this club and this city is what drew me to this project. I am proud of the progress we have made together and the standards we have set. This progress reflects the hard work of our players, our coaching staff and all of our employees, as well as the unwavering support of our fans. I thank the leadership for their trust. I am full of energy to build on our success and to keep making the city of Houston proud."

Next up for Olsen and his side is a trip to Minnesota United, who are battling in the playoff race. Minnesota arrive in high spirits after a stunning comeback in their last match, recovering from 2-0 down against St. Louis City SC to win 3-2 thanks to an 86th-minute goal from Marcus Caldeira. Minnesota head coach Cameron Knowles said the mood in the squad is very positive and that his team are ready for the tough test ahead.

Players to watch

Houston Dynamo – Guilherme

Guilherme recorded his 10th assist of the season on Saturday, adding double-digit assists to his 16 goals. The Brazilian attacker became the first player in Dynamo history to surpass 15+ goals and 10+ assists in a single regular season. Across MLS, he is the fourth Brazilian to achieve the feat, after Evander, Gabriel Pec and Welton.

Minnesota United – Kelvin Yeboah

Yeboah finished last weekend with 1 goal and 1 assist, taking his direct goal contributions for the season to 21 (17 goals, 4 assists). He became the fourth player in Minnesota history to produce 20 or more goal contributions in a regular season.
