Manchester United 0-3 Bournemouth: Pressure Mounts on Carrick After Heavy Defeat

Bournemouth claimed a memorable 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, piling further pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

With captain Bruno Fernandes starting on the bench, United fell behind to goals from Rayan and Marcus Tavernier just five minutes apart in the first half, sending Bournemouth into the break 2-0 up. The hosts' lacklustre display was met with loud boos from the Old Trafford stands.

Evanilson had the ball in the net just 21 seconds into the second half, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, but the Brazilian striker made his mark in the 71st minute. Latching on to a long ball from Lewis Cook, Evanilson rounded the onrushing Senne Lammens and fired a neat finish into the empty net from the right, extending United's winless run in all competitions to 8 matches.

The opening goal arrived in the 38th minute. Left completely unmarked at the back post from a Justin Kluivert free kick, Rayan beat Lammens to end a 9-game league goal drought. Just 5 minutes later, Leny Yoro slipped unfortunately, Adrien Truffert pounced and squared for Tavernier, who rolled the ball into an empty net to double the lead.

United went in search of a goal through Bryan Mbeumo and Lisandro Martinez in the second half but could not beat goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. When Andrey Santos's header was cleared off the line in the closing stages, it was clear the scoreline would not change, and the visitors left with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Fernandes's absence from the starting XI drew attention after he had implicitly criticised Carrick's tactical approach during the week, while United have managed just 1 league win this season. The crisis is deepening at Manchester United, who have won only 1 of the last 11 competitive matches in which the Portuguese star has not started.
