Mbappé: "If We Don't Follow It Up, the El Clásico Win Means Nothing"

Real Madrid's El Clásico victory over Barcelona will mean nothing unless they build on it. Those were the words of Kylian Mbappé, who scored twice in the game.

The French star netted both goals as Real Madrid won 2-1 at Camp Nou. Raphinha cancelled out Mbappé's first-half opener, but Mbappé struck again in the 87th minute to secure all 3 points for his side.

With this match, Mbappé has now scored against Barcelona 8 times in a Real Madrid shirt, and he reached the 100-goal mark in his 116th appearance in all competitions for the club.

With Real Madrid sitting 3 points behind Barcelona in LaLiga, the star forward stressed that the win must be followed up.

"This win on its own means nothing; this is Real Madrid," the French forward said. "We have to keep going, because winning 5 games in a row isn't a benchmark for us – we want to win every game. This victory at Camp Nou sent a good message, but we can't think the season is over. Next week we have to bring the same intensity onto the pitch."

Stressing that the success came not just from his own goals but from a collective effort, Mbappé said:

"To be honest, the real hero of the game was the team, the whole group. We knew we had to show character on the pitch and play as a team. We prepared very well for the last few games; we won, we played with the right mentality and we gave everything we had. We had difficult moments in the game, and moments when we were on top. In the end, winning and staying in the race is very important for us, but we can't stop. We know this was a big game, but at the end of the day it's only worth 3 points. We need to collect a lot more points to win the league."

Real Madrid's next league match is against Racing Santander on 1 November.
