Sergen Yalçın era officially begins for Türkiye's senior national team with 4-year deal

Sergen Yalçın has been appointed as the new head coach of the Türkiye senior national team. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) officially announced the appointment of the 53-year-old coach, stating that a 4-year contract will be signed with Yalçın and his backroom staff. The experienced figure, who won titles at Beşiktaş both as a player and as a head coach, will take charge of the senior national team for the first time in his career.

According to the federation's official statement, the decision to appoint Sergen Yalçın as head coach of the senior national team was taken at a meeting of the Board of Directors. Announcing that a four-year contract will be signed with the experienced coach and his staff, the TFF stressed that Yalçın will bring the experience he has gained at club level to the Türkiye national team.

Sergen Yalçın began his coaching career in the Beşiktaş academy and went on to manage Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Kayserispor, Eskişehirspor, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Yeni Malatyaspor and Antalyaspor. He achieved the greatest success of his career with Beşiktaş in the 2020/21 season, leading the Black Eagles to both the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup.

In his playing days, Yalçın turned out for Beşiktaş, İstanbulspor, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor, becoming the first footballer to play for all of Türkiye's 4 big clubs (Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor). He scored 5 goals in 37 appearances for Türkiye and was part of the squads at EURO 1996 and EURO 2000. Having represented the senior national team as a player, he will now lead it as head coach.
