Harry Kane missed a penalty in his first game since winning the Ballon d'Or as Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 at Bayern Munich in a breathtaking Der Klassiker.
Harry Kane missed a penalty in his first game since winning the Ballon d'Or as Borussia Dortmund came away from a breathtaking Der Klassiker at Bayern Munich with a 2-2 draw.
Kane, who had paraded the world's most prestigious individual award in front of the Allianz Arena crowd before kick-off, sent his 56th-minute penalty against the crossbar with Bayern leading 1-0 through Konrad Laimer's goal.
Serhou Guirassy levelled for Dortmund before Dayot Upamecano restored Bayern's lead. But with a minute of normal time remaining, BVB substitute Fábio Silva found the net to ensure both sides extended their 8-match unbeaten runs in the Bundesliga.
Bayern came close as early as the 10th minute, when Michael Olise's effort came back off Gregor Kobel's left-hand post. Moments later, at the other end, Jonas Urbig denied Jobe Bellingham.
Ismael Saibari failed with an attempted lob when clean through on Kobel and was forced off injured after colliding with the Dortmund goalkeeper. Saibari was the first of three Bayern players to pick up an injury, with Serge Gnabry following him off shortly afterwards.
Upamecano was put under pressure in his own six-yard box after a pass from Kim Min-jae; Carney Chukwuemeka seized possession and teed up Bellingham, who sent the ball into the net. However, the goal was ruled out after a VAR review found that Chukwuemeka had fouled goalkeeper Urbig.
It was Laimer who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute; after his first shot was blocked by Kobel's foot, the Austrian tucked away the rebound to put Bayern ahead.
Having failed to take chances to extend their lead through Laimer and Olise early in the second half, Bayern were handed a golden opportunity through Kane. Following a corner, Felix Nmecha handled Kane's volley, but the English striker sent the resulting penalty against the woodwork.
The miss sparked a frantic spell. In the 60th minute, Guirassy made it 1-1 from a move set up by Chukwuemeka. In the 66th minute, Kane headed Joshua Kimmich's cross down into the danger area and Upamecano finished to put Bayern back in front.
Bayern's spirits sank when Olise was also forced off injured, and Dortmund took centre stage once more in the closing stages. Aleksandar Pavlovic was left on the ground after a challenge from Konstantinos Karetsas, and as play continued Silva beat Urbig to make it 2-2. In stoppage time, the hosts were denied by the woodwork once again when Lennart Karl's shot struck the post.
Wearing special white-and-gold boots in his first match since being named the world's best, Harry Kane failed to score from the spot for only the second time in 27 penalties in his Bundesliga career, capping an unlucky day.
