Derby County crisis deepens: Eustace refuses to give up despite heavy defeat to Norwich
Struggling Derby County lost 4-0 at home to Norwich City at Pride Park, three days after a 4-1 defeat at Millwall, leaving them with one win in their last 14 league games.
Derby County, enduring a difficult spell in the Championship, extended their poor run with a 4-0 defeat to Norwich City at Pride Park. Just three days after losing 4-1 away at Millwall, Derby were unable to hold firm on home soil either, leaving them with just one win in their last 14 league matches.
Norwich took the lead as early as the 8th minute when Anthony Musaba scored from close range, and Paris Maghoma doubled the advantage with a well-struck finish. Darlin Yongwa made it 3-0 late in the first half, before Jovon Makama sealed the result with a stylish effort that went in off the crossbar. Norwich City, who claimed a third straight win under Philippe Clement, climbed to 12th place.
Derby County, meanwhile, conceded four goals in consecutive league matches for the first time since October 2000. Stuck in 23rd place and now 7 points adrift of safety, the alarm bells continue to ring for the side.
Head coach John Eustace, under mounting pressure with each passing day, insisted he would not give up the fight. Stating that he believes he can turn things around, Eustace said: "I am absolutely not giving up. We are going through a tough period, but when we come through it we will be much stronger. Being 7 points from safety at this stage is not nice, but it is not the end of the world either. Our performance in this game was below our level. As a team we have not been good enough over the season as a whole, and we have to sort that out before Friday's game. I got it wrong tactically and I take full responsibility for this performance."
Elsewhere in the league, Birmingham City beat Millwall 3-0 at home to move into second place, while Stoke City took third spot after a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.
