'Exceptional' Harry Wilson returns to Wales' UEFA Nations League squad

Craig Bellamy said he was delighted to welcome back Harry Wilson, whom he described as "exceptional", as he named Wales' squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

Wales took just three points from their first three matches during the last international break and will face Norway and Portugal in their final Group A4 fixtures.

The return of Wilson, who was ruled out of the squad in September with a thigh injury and has not played for his country since March, has given the side a lift. The 29-year-old, who moved from Fulham to Leeds United in the summer transfer window, has recorded 1 assist in 9 competitive appearances for his new club this season.

Wilson's Leeds teammate Joe Rodon has also been included, despite not having played since suffering a hamstring injury in August.

"During my time here we've clearly seen the impact Harry has on the team," said Wales head coach Bellamy. "He has always been exceptional for us. Joe is a tremendous player too, and it's great to have him with us. The players will be in action for their clubs this weekend; hopefully they will all be fit when they join up on Sunday, because they are extremely important players for us."

Bellamy has also recalled Manchester United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, while Joe Duncan, on loan at National League side Southend United from Bristol City, has received his first senior call-up.

Cardiff City's Rubin Colwill has been selected for the first time since November last year, while Kai Andrews, on loan at Oxford United from Coventry City, returns for the first time since June.

Wales are aiming to finish in the top two to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League, while also looking to retain their place in League A. However, Bellamy's side sit three points behind Denmark and level on points with fourth-placed Norway, leaving them at risk of a relegation play-off or of dropping straight into League B.

Wales visit Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium on 14 November before hosting Portugal at the Cardiff City Stadium three days later.
