'We can lose any game and we can win any game' – Amorim calls for consistency at Milan

Rúben Amorim has urged his AC Milan players to find consistency after a lacklustre start to their UEFA Europa League campaign.

Milan have won only one of their first three matches in the league phase this season, beating Salzburg in between defeats to Benfica and Bournemouth.

The Italian giants, who won five matches in a row in the Champions League between October 2024 and January 2025, have claimed just one victory in their last six European outings (1 draw, 4 defeats).

Things hardly look easy for the Rossoneri, who host Ferencváros on Thursday. The Hungarian side have made it three out of three in the Europa League this season and remain unbeaten. Ferencváros last won four or more consecutive matches in a major European competition in 1967-68, when they reached the final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Amorim, whose side won the Milan derby (Derby della Madonnina) at the weekend, wants his team to maintain that momentum. The Portuguese head coach said:

"This is a Europa League match and it is extremely important for us. Beyond the result, we need to maintain this consistency. We have to stay consistent throughout the game; that is the really big step we need to take. Rotation or who is on the pitch makes no difference at all. We have to be a very good team and win, and our goal in this competition is to go all the way.

We can lose any game, and we can also win any game. That is the character of this team, and everything depends on how we approach the match. Whether it is Serie A, Serie B or the Europa League, it makes no difference; just as we can win any game, we can lose any game too. Especially nowadays, everyone knows each other very well; the players have a high level of technical ability, and head coaches have a wealth of data and analysis at their disposal to prepare for matches."

Milan's only previous meeting with Hungarian opposition came in the round of 16 of the 1967-68 Cup Winners' Cup against Győri ETO, and both matches ended in draws (2-2 in Hungary, 1-1 in Italy).

Ferencváros, for their part, recorded the only away win in their history against Italian opposition in March 1965, beating Roma 2-1 in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Since then, the Hungarian side have failed to win any of their four matches on Italian soil (2 draws, 2 defeats).
