"We Have to Keep Going" – Mourinho Wants Far More Than a Single El Clásico Win

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho stressed that simply beating Barcelona is not enough for him, saying his team must set their sights on the LaLiga title.

A brace from Kylian Mbappé at Camp Nou carried Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory in El Clásico.

The Portuguese coach has now won 6 El Clásicos across his two spells in charge of Real Madrid, and only two managers in the club's history sit ahead of him: Miguel Muñoz (16) and Carlo Ancelotti (9).

Yet Mourinho was not content with the result, underlining that the Madrid side must build on this win.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho said: "It's a great win, but when we go back to work I won't let anyone become complacent. Real Madrid don't play to win at Camp Nou; they play to win the league. We have to keep going."

Reflecting on the game itself, the experienced coach added: "I think it was a fantastic match. It was played at the highest level, the whole football-loving world stopped to watch, and nobody was disappointed. Speaking for ourselves, the boys played brilliantly – organised, focused and with great courage. For me, it's a huge victory against a great opponent. The boys more than deserved it."

Real Madrid were without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who missed the squad through a physical problem. Andriy Lunin, who took the gloves in his place, played a key part in the win with 5 saves.

On Lunin, Mourinho said: "The only thing I told him before the game was this: you don't train to sit on the bench, you train to play. We have the best goalkeeper in the world, but today, before the game, we didn't go into mourning because Thibaut couldn't play. We are a strong group."
