David Moyes: Jack Grealish could return to the Everton squad

Everton head coach David Moyes has said Jack Grealish, who has faced disciplinary issues, could earn his way back into the squad.

Grealish was left out of the squad for last week's League Cup tie against Newcastle United after breaching the club's disciplinary rules and missing a training session. The 31-year-old also missed Monday's Premier League victory, again against Newcastle, with both Moyes and the club saying his absence was down to a lack of fitness.

Now in his second loan season at Everton, Grealish recorded 2 goals and 6 assists in 22 matches in the 2025-26 season before a foot injury brought his campaign to an early end. This season, the Englishman has made just 6 appearances and has yet to directly contribute to a goal.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Moyes said: "I said he wasn't ready for tonight's game against Newcastle. I don't know yet whether he'll be involved in Friday's match against Coventry City." Asked whether there was a way back into the team for Grealish, the Scottish coach replied: "Of course there is."

Everton, meanwhile, won 1-0 at Newcastle to end a 9-match winless run away from home in the Premier League (5 draws, 4 defeats). The Toffees have now won all three of their meetings with Newcastle in 2026. Since Moyes took charge in January 2025, only Arsenal (31) and Manchester City (28) have kept more Premier League clean sheets than Everton (20).
