Marmoush Sends Tottenham Message: 'This Is Just the Beginning'

Omar Marmoush believes Tottenham's first Premier League win of the season is "just the beginning" and that they deserve to be much higher in the table.

Tottenham finally tasted victory at the 7th attempt in the league, beating Coventry City 3-1, with Marmoush scoring his first goal for the club. James Maddison and Ben Davies were also on target for Roberto De Zerbi's side, and notably all three goals came from outside the box.

Tottenham became the first team to score three goals from outside the area in a Premier League match since Fulham v Leicester City in May 2023. The London club last managed the feat in September 2022, also against Leicester City.

The result was only Spurs' 6th win in their last 37 Premier League home matches (10 draws, 21 defeats) and their 4th league win of 2026. Marmoush, however, believes they can now put this difficult spell behind them and start picking up the consistent results their performances deserve.

Speaking after the match, Marmoush said: "We are very, very happy. We had been putting in good performances in recent weeks but couldn't crown them with a win. We are very happy to have got our first win today, and I'm also delighted to have scored my first goal in a Tottenham shirt. We will keep building on this. We learn new things in every game. We played brilliantly in the first few weeks but the results didn't come. This is just the beginning."

Another striking statistic is that all 11 of Marmoush's Premier League goals have come in home matches (10 for Manchester City at the Etihad and 1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium). That is the highest tally in the league's history by a player who has scored at home without ever finding the net away.

Marmoush, who put Spurs 2-1 up after Jack Rudoni's equaliser, also eased the pressure on head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The Egyptian said he is thoroughly enjoying working with the Italian:

"I feel great. The coach helps all of us and teaches us the small details. He also takes a close interest in us individually. I love the intensity and passion he brings, and we believe in the system we play. On the pitch we are like one big family and we will fight for each other until the end."

The win lifts Tottenham to 16th, and they face Chelsea in a derby at Stamford Bridge on Saturday before hosting Crystal Palace.
