The Champions League's oldest starting XIs: Fenerbahçe in 2nd place
Napoli top the ranking of the oldest starting XIs from the first three weeks of the Champions League with 30.4; Fenerbahçe share second place with AEK on 29.9.
After the first three weeks of the UEFA Champions League season, the starting XIs with the highest average age have been determined. In an assessment based on the line-ups teams fielded at kick-off, Napoli topped the list with an average age of 30.4. The Italian side were followed by AEK and Fenerbahçe, each with an average age of 29.9.
Fenerbahçe in second place
Fenerbahçe fielded a starting XI with an average age of 29.9 in their 2-2 draw with Slavia Prague. The Turkish club thus matched AEK's average and shared second place in the ranking of the season's oldest starting XIs.
Napoli, who sit top of the list, took the field against Bodø/Glimt with an average age of 30.4, while AEK had an average age of 29.9 in their 5-1 defeat to Manchester City. Real Betis (29.2), Bayern Munich (29.0) and Inter (29.0) followed further down the ranking.
Galatasaray in 12th place
Galatasaray, meanwhile, started their 4-2 win over Lille with a starting XI averaging 28.2 years. That average places Galatasaray 12th on the list, leaving a gap of 1.7 years to Fenerbahçe's starting XI.
Only each club's starting XI with the highest average age was taken into account. This prevented the same team from appearing in the ranking more than once, and the data were based not on clubs' overall squad average ages but on the starting line-ups they fielded in specific matches.
