Harry Kane: "I'd choose Champions League glory over the next Ballon d'Or"

Bayern Munich star striker Harry Kane has said he would gladly give up the next Ballon d'Or if it meant his side winning the Champions League.
Kane, who beat Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d'Or for the first time in his career last week, became the fourth-oldest first-time winner of the award (33 years 90 days), after Stanley Matthews (1956 - 41 years 321 days), Karim Benzema (2022 - 34 years 302 days) and Lev Yashin (1963 - 34 years 56 days).
The England captain scored 61 goals in all competitions in the 2025-26 season, finishing 19 goals clear of his nearest rival in Europe's top five leagues. It was the highest tally by any player in a single season since Cristiano Ronaldo's 61 goals for Real Madrid in 2014-15.
Last season, Bayern Munich were knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals, losing 6-5 on aggregate to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain. Kane's 14 goals in that campaign made him the English player with the most goals in a single season in the competition's history since 1955, and he found the net in each of his last 10 matches in the tournament.
With Bayern Munich once again tipped as one of the strongest title contenders this season, Kane stressed that his focus is on European glory rather than individual honours.
"I think I'd trade the next Ballon d'Or for a Champions League title," the England star said. "Football being a team sport is the reason we all step onto the pitch. Of course, winning the Ballon d'Or was one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. But lifting the trophy with Bayern would be an indescribable feeling. Winning the Ballon d'Or is very special, but as a team we all want to reach the Champions League final and taste that great success. Right now, I still have the chance to win both."
